The Nepean HACC Access Project with the support of a working party of local HACC service providers/organizations developed "A Consumer & Carer Handbook" The booklet provides basic information about the Home & Community Care (HACC) program, eligibility, what services are available and how to access them. The booklet is useful for all service providers, health & community workers to leave with their clients during assessments, as it will provide the consumer with information to make informed choices. The booklet has translated versions in English, Arabic, Spanish, Italian, Chinese and Greek. Translations in other languages will be completed as our budget allows. This handbook is free to all HACC services in the Blue Mountains, Penrith and Hawkesbury LGAs. A CD ROM version (includes translations) is available to non-HACC services for $11.00 (inc. GST). This resouce is available for $22.00 (inc. GST). It is also available on CD ROM ($11.00 inc. GST). Resource available for download or ordering:
The Study into the Needs of Carers from Culturally and Linguistically diverse (CALD) communities in the Nepean was completed in partnership with the Nepean Multicultural Access Project and the Strengthening Community Links for Project for People with Disabilities. There is evidence, on a National and Statewide level, that the level of access and usage of aged and disability community care services by people from CALD communities is comparatively lower than the service access and usage by people from Anglo communities. Evidence is also available, from a NSW perspective, on the impact of cultural issues on the role of a family member who provides care for a frail older person or a younger person with a disability. As there did not appear to be any locally relevant information regarding CALD carers in the Nepean area to date, the project partners considered that a fundamental step in addressing the issue of service under-utilisation was to gain some insight and understanding of the reality of CALD carers in relation to service access. The report details the results of consultations with sample groups from three different CALD communities and one language group. A total of 92 participants participated across four specific focus groups for people from the Greek, Macedonian and Filipino communities and also the Arabic speaking communities. To ensure a transparent and equitable process, a professional facilitator and professional interpreters were engaged for these four focus groups. On the basis of the information gathered in this study, the report provided 10 recommendations. Click here to download report. Printed version ($22.00 inc. GST) and CD ROM version ($11.00 inc. GST) are also available. Resource developed by Bankstown Area Multicultural Network Inc (BAMN):
